ISSE Show Part I

  • Sharebar

Sunday I attended the Long Beach ISSE or The International Salon and Spa Expo to check out if there was any new products on the horizon from our salon/spa friends. The ISSE show hit rock bottom a few years back with literally just booths of jewelry and nail polish, that it almost looked like a swap meet. Anyone then could get in, but now, only licensed salon professionals (and students) are allowed entrance. Did the vendors change? Well, a bit better, but let’s just say if I see another hair extension booth, I’ll scream. Also, the ISSE show used to be the epitome of education, but that also changed. Classes are smaller and not as impressive. And the big wigs that used to put on such performances, such as Sebastian, Toni & Guy and Paul Mitchell disappeared to do their own thing.  And they’re also badly missed.

I did manage to find some gems amongst the crowd though.

Let me start the show off with a bang:

t3

T3, the leader in tourmaline hair straighteners will be coming out Feb 1st with a brand new wet/dry iron, that will not damage or fade your hair. The company boasts of a 70% retention in hair color so you don’t have to worry about fading that gorgeous hair color job of yours.  They also have a new product called T3-360 degrees Boost.  Use before you flat iron to get shinier, frizz free hair. It also speeds up the time you need to dry your hair as well, if you’re using the wet/dry iron.

The Soi Company

Soy candles are all the rage but did you know you can use as skincare? If you have one that’s all pure you can. Soi Candles use 100%, FDA approved, kosher soy oil and burn cleaner than paraffin-based candles.  Also, unlike wax, soy oil burns at 106º that remains warm to the touch and will not burn.  The melted part of the candle can be used as a skin moisturizer for dry hands, etc.  They also claim that you can use as a remedy for sunburned skin, eczema, psoriasis, and poison oak!

And all this in a candle.

bBeautie Tweezers

I saw these tweezers that I just had to buy. How about tweezers that do all the tweezing for you? Yep, I was intrigued also.

Nope these aren’t it.

So brand new it’s not even on the website.  But these tweezers have handles on the side that you click, and it retracts the tweezer part of the tip and it pulls the hair out for you. No hand movements are needed.  I actually tried this on myself when I got home and I was surprised that the ouch factor was literally none. And it also pulled the hair out much slower than the normal tweeze.  Only oh oh factor was that the side handles to push is a bit hard to do. Takes a bit of pressure to get the handles to move and after about one eyebrow, my fingers got tired quick.  I actually just picked up my regular tweezers to finish. I don’t how I’d do 20-25 eyebrow clients a day this way.  I so wanted it to work.  Hmm, maybe I need to start finger push ups….

Tigi Hair Collection

The Tigi hair show/seminar showed a lot of the same from years past. I almost felt like I watched this show last year, and the year before that… The TiGi trend? Big strong blunt cut bangs…  which actually is on the way out. Also, alot of strong color blocking, with blues, yellows, oranges being used to create thick color chunks in the hair…

The Kaizen Collection

Also, check out their FW from London hair trends…

Stay tuned for more finds from ISSE……..
