The Makeup Show: Day I

June 10th, 2008  |  Published in Uncategorized

While I was at the Total Beauty Summit in Los Angeles, my fav makeup assistant was in New York, at the Powder Group’s Makeup Show. I so wish I was there, but Lindsay made sure to keep me and you in the loop: Elke

Lindsay says:

Yep, it’s true– I had definitely been waiting all year for the Makeup Show! One gets to see the latest and greatest products from over 60 professionally geared vendors and also see amazing presenters, seminars, and workshops. What a wonderful once a year opportunity to meet professionals from around the world that live and breathe makeup! Makeup artistry is one of the fastest growing industries in this country. It’s easy to see why when you get to see some of the biggest named pros speak about their experiences and share their knowledge in the workshops. Below are some of my favorite things from the vendors and later I will let you know the highlights of the workshops.

Old favorites from last year that I still am dying over:

Embryolisse– I absolutely adore this moistuizer forever and I use it on everyone. You just can’t argue with quality.

Face Atelier– I cannot live without these foundations! Clearly try them, people! You can order samples from their website and you shan’t be disappointed. Other gems of the line include the transforming gel, the eye shimmers, and lipsticks. The colors and pigments are just so good and are certainly made with love.

Hakuhodo brushes– I dare you to find brushes softer than these! Not possible. These are the definition of luxury.

Nurturing Force Blotting Paper– I love this because I can cut the paper to whatever size I need! Sometimes you just need to blot a forehead in one fell swoop.200806091012.jpg

Make Up For Ever-- I’m so not surprised that this was the most crowded booth at the Makeup Show! People were going nuts over the new HD foundations, primers and powder and for good reason! The finish on these products is phenomenal. The powder is a standout for me especially for the satiny feel and instant soft focus effect. I can use this on all skintones, seriously, even the darkest.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics-- Not only do they have gorgeous makeup at great prices, but they have the most adorable airbrush compressor in town! I love their loose colors and the Tarred Lip Balm, that subtly darkens the lip alone or over lipcolor. The makeup artist behind the line is the amazingly knowledgeable David Klasfeld, who will show you just how to use your hot new airbrushing equipment in a workshop at Rouge Makeup Studio.

Rouge Makeup Studio brings me to my list of favorite new discoveries at the Makeup Show. Celebrity makeup artists and founders Anne DeMarco and Charles Douglas have created a beautiful upscale space in Manhattan’s Flatiron district. Clients visit for their ultimate service and makeup artists love dropping by for their workshop series. Workshops range from Makeup 101 and So You Want To Be A Makeup Artist to Painting the Ultimate Smokey Eye and Bridal Beauty. Private one-on-one workshops are available as well! Awesome!
