Did anyone else see on GMA this morning, the ‘competition’ between different cosmetics based on price? If you missed it, you can see it here: just click on the “Does High Cost Mean High Quality?” video link.
What surprised me was how close the colors matched in their cheap, mid and high range category. The colors looked sooo similar. But we all know that almost all high end cosmetics have a cheaper counterpart (i.e. Lancome & L’oreal).
But what got me was in how they did it. The poor reporter had to apply the cheap and mid range cosmetics by herself. But for the high end range? A makeup artist did it for her. Now don’t you think that automatically changes the look? As in a better application, I’m sure more makeup brushes were used, and a more professional look was achieved. Don’t you think? Why didn’t they have her apply the high range line herself as well? Of course, the high end range looked better. More coverage on the skin, brighter colors on the blush and lips. The reporter did say that she noticed a considerable difference in the feel of the high end products, but the look? Is it really that much different?
So what’s the real story? Hmmm.. let me guess. Were the products that much better because a pro applied it? Or because the products were really that much better?

I agree that it's not a very fair test. If they wanted to introduce a professional makeup artist, then they should have let that same person apply all 3 – low end, mid range, high end makeup.
No offence to the reporter, but just because you give a person high quality canvas, paints and brushes doesn't mean they're going to produce a Rembrandt.
I agree too, that wasn't a fair test. They should've either had the reporter apply all of 'em or had the makeup artist apply all of 'em. Either of those options would've been a fair test, but what they did was not.
What was the high end makeup they used to compare to the cheap stuff?
I think it was Chanel but I could be wrong. They didn't really show the
makeup items, just that they were drugstore and department store. You might
be able to catch a glimpse of it in the video.
