Clarisonic Skin Care System
If you were around before the holidays, you’ve probably seen all the beauty blog raves about this new skin care system to hit the market. This thing got more buzz than most new makeup collections get when they launch a new color line. And yep. I got one too to try.
The majority of reviews were pretty favorable:
The Beauty Brains
Fashion Ivy
eBeautyDaily
The Glamourista
Blissfully Domestic
These are just some of the reviews out there.
First of all, I was wondering, am I the only one doing a big, “what the?” on a tool that costs almost $200? Oh that’s the sale price. Sephora has it listed at retail value at $290. Huh? Are you kidding me? For a brush that ‘vibrates’ and is supposed to get your skin super clean. The practical side of my brain went, are people just too lazy to scrub their own skin anymore? And not only that, pay hundreds of dollars for a tool to do the job for them? Needless to say I was very cautious. Can you tell? Oh, and did I mention? It’s also sold out.
So I plug in, wash and scrub. While the set comes with a 3 different types of cleansers… you can pretty much easily use any of your own. So I charge this thing up, apply the cleanser and buzz through washing my face. Press a button and buzz buzz buzz. Yep. I’m still cautious. First of all, the tool is pretty big and clunky in your hand. And trying to get around little areas like your nose and temples is a little awkward. But it works. And the vibration (buzz buzz buzz!) is more than you think it will be. Think of your sonic toothbrush and you pretty much have it. Yes the whole brush head does vibrate, and my thin, sensitive skin really felt it. Then after about 1 minute the unit clicks itself off. Done. Rinse.
My skin felt a little, ah, raw? Buffed? Not really tingling, but you could tell it did a job on my skin. Did my skin feel cleaner? No, not really, even though press says it cleans skin two times more effectively than if you were to ‘do it yourself’. Did my skin feel scrubbed? Ya betcha. Was I amazingly impressed? Um, not really. But I did realize a few things about it that was cool.
Like, the timer aspect. One minute and you’re done. Finished. And it’s quicker than you think. I liked that when the brush turned off, I was DONE. I also liked the fact that technically, you really won’t ever have to buy facial scrub again. Why? Because this brush pretty much does it for you. So you save valuable time by cleansing and scrubbing at the same time. Your skin care routine can be pretty much cut in half, with using this and moisturizer and you’re done. I did like how fast the whole process was.
So would I actually go out and buy this if I hadn’t gotten from their press department? Probably not.
And I’ll be totally honest here:
CONS:
Price. As in WAY too much money for this.
Replacement Heads: $25 a pop.
Size: This thing is bigger and clunkier in the hand than you think it will be.
Super sensitive skin? You may not want to use this every day, though it does say you can. I found my skin couldn’t take it every day, more like every other or 3rd day was better for me.
Acne skin? Avoid. You’ll spread bacteria around the face which can lead to more breakouts if you don’t disinfect the brush head after every cleansing.
PROS:
Can use any cleanser.
Save valuable time by not needing to do a scrub step in your routine.
One less product (scrub) to use (or buy?)
So is time saving worth the price? For me, no. I can easily use a facial brush tool to do the scrubbing for me without spending a few hundred dollars. But if you love new gadgets, and skin care, you might like this new toy just for the buzz buzz factor. To each his own they say. For me? I’d rather save my money.
