Cool makeup tricks.

There’s nothing I love more than seeing new and innovative makeup tips and tricks from other makeup artists. At the New York Makeup Show, I got to watch master makeup artist John Hennesey do some cool makeup. Tricks that got me?

1. Use a long fluff brush to apply and blend concealer under eyes. You get a airbrushed look that way.

2. If contouring the face, try using only matte bronzers & highlights in your highlight and contour for a new look.

3.  Apply powder with a flat powder brush and pat on instead of brushing. That way you don’t disturb the makeup underneath.

4. Apply your eyebrow pencil with an angle brush instead of directly from the pencil. You get a softer look that you can control better.

5. Instead of applying with a fan brush, that most makeup artists do, use the fan brush to comb through mascara rather than a metal comb. Softer on the lashes and easier to use.

  1. Can the fluff brush be used on cream concealers or just liquid?

And can you please elaborate on the flat powder brush thing? Thanks so much! Love your site!

  2. A flat powder brush is one that is flat in shape (as in the photo above) so that you use the sides of the brush, instead of the tips as usually. You tap or pat the powder on with the sides of the brush and then once the powder is all on, you then brush with the clean tips. It sets the makeup without disturbing any product underneath.
