Take Control Beauty Tactic #3

Save at least 10% of your income.

Or make that your beauty income. As in save $$ where you can.  There’s always ways.  Need something new? You probably already have it.  Ran out of shaving cream? Use up that body lotion or hair conditioner that isn’t working for you.  Blush gone? Use up a lipstick on cheeks.  Or my favorite?  Go through allll your stuff (makeup related) and clean house. Go through and throw away the old, salvage the maybes and find the new.

I just did this before the New Year’s and boy. It was like shopping in my own bedroom.
I have one of those Staples office file cabinets on wheels that actually is my makeup storage.

One drawer for lip gloss, one for foundations and powders, one for blush, one for eye shadow, you get the idea. Or as my mom would say, ‘that’s an awful lot!”  I agree. Especially when i was spilling out at the seems and I couldn’t even add any more to it.
So clean house I did.  Went through the whole lot. And organized.
Here’s how I did it. All items got put into 4 categories.
1. Throw away (too old, too dirty, too, well, yuck!)
2. Broken but savable, too little but usable.  As in broken eye shadows or blush that need a new home, or lipsticks that have that little 1/4″ of lipstick still left in the tube that I can still use but can’t get to.
3. The keepers.  Yeah! Still got, still use.
4. The newbies. Oh, this was the most fun. As in, “oh my god I don’t even remember buying this thing and squeal I can’t wait to use and it’s brand new, forgot all about it and gotta use now!”

So the #1’s, got the trash.
The #2’s were frantically saved (well, if they could be) and broken shadows were put in vitamin pill holders (blush in one, shadows in another) and lipstick were cracked and scraped out of their tubes and out in their own by color long vitamin pill container (nudes in one, brights in another, dark in another..) you should have seen the numbers of lipstick tubes I saved. It was like shopping all over again. Colors I didn’t even remember that I had.
The #3’s got put back into their little makeup drawers.
The #4’s were given their own little place of distinction. In a cute little basket on the top of my table for me to go through and play with every a.m. Once I’ve dutifully played to my heart’s content, they get put in their right drawer.
it was like christmas morning I tell ya!
So need something new to add to your makeup collection? You probably already have it. Go ’shopping’ in your makeup and you’ll be amazed at all the goodies you’ll find. Best part? Doesn’t cost a dime!
Now if only I could get that motivated to clean up my office…..
