Take Control Beauty Tactic #4

Go from dating to doing.

I know, you’re probably thinking I’ve turned my beauty blog into a dating blog. Nope, sorry. But it does make me think.  Beauty wise that is. How about, go from thinking to doing. As in a new makeup look.  Don’t just dream about it. Do it! Make that my Take Control Beauty Tactic #4.
I know, it’s hard. What if it looks awful? What if no one likes it? What if I can’t get the look to work? What if it’s too much? Too little? Too strong? Too heavy, too light, too ….. blah blah blah.
A lot of women just don’t even attempt to put on makeup.  As in nothing.  And the #1 reason I hear why, is that they just don’t know how. But I don’t think that’s the real reason.  I think the real reason is that they’re afraid of not doing it right.  So they don’t even start.  Well, I hate to break it to you but you’re not going to look like JLow the first time you do your makeup. Heck, not even JLow looked like JLow when she started.  But you’re getting ahead of yourself.
Don’t think the whole face. The whole look. All the makeup items. If you’re not used to it, it can be a bit overwhelming. It’s a lot of stuff.

So take it small. Start out easy.  Do one thing. Is it blush? Lips? Eyes? Do one thing. That’s it.  A new look, or a new face has to start somewhere.  And believe me, just changing one thing can change your whole look.  Cheeks and lips are the easiest.  Blush? One color. Pinch your cheeks. What color do you get? That’s the color you should look for in blush.  Lips?  Go 1/2 shades darker/deeper than your actual lip color.  Or even try to match it.  The color on top of your lip color will change it enough.  It’ll work.  Lipstick too much? Just swatch on a lip gloss instead.

Think soft, neutrals, nothing bright or dark.  Start small. Blush?  Lighter skin tones tend to look best with pink or salmon shades for blush. Olive skin? Go warmer, mango, peach, sunset.  Darker skin, go berry or dark bronze.  Put it on with nothing else on. Do you look flushed? Natural? Glowing? As in you could just throw on lipgloss and run out the door? You got the right color.  Next? Throw on mascara, top lashes only.  You’re done.
See? Baby steps. Add one thing at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself. You’ll get there.
So don’t worry about starting. Just do it.  One step at a time. Have fun with it… Start small, think big.  You’ll get there.  And have a ton of fun along the way.
