One trend on the Spring Runway Collections that left a lot of gasps in it’s wake, was all about the nude. And I don’t mean the clothes. It was all about the nude, almost nothing there makeup. And it was hard to swallow. After years of glossy lips and flushed cheeks, this looked so pale and so, well, nothing. But don’t worry. You can make it work. Here’s how.
The Skin:

ARCONA Sunsations Mineral Makeup Foundation, Cabo Caliente
Alison Raffaele Mineral Powder To Go Brush
Amazing Cosmetics Velvet Mineral Powder Foundation
While the runways showed literally almost no foundation and a true to skin look for the trend, this is one part that I can safely say you can adjust. Feeling adventurous? Dust on your mineral makeup over concealer for a softer coverage, and by all means, step away from the heavy foundation cream to powder foundations that will only make you look heavy and outdated. Go softer, lighter yet with still coverage and you can easily cheat this part of of the look. Focus on spot concealing where needed rather than wiping out the whole skin and ’starting over’ approach ala the 80’s. Dust on powder foundation with a brush rather than a sponge.. spot conceal with liquid foundations and dust over with mineral powder…. keep concealer shades as close to your skin color as possible. No 1 to 2 shades lighter here approach. It just won’t work. The key is to keep skin looking like skin.
The Cheeks:
Bronzer is a key part of this look, but instead of dusting on the whole face, the newest way to wear it is as contour. Seen this way also last year, this year it’s applied as a more sculptured, under the cheekbones application. Or if applied on cheeks, it’s applied toward the ears, back on the top of cheekbones, rather than on the apple. Also, keep bronzer, for this look, away from the nose, forehead and chin. You’re looking for a more refined look, not sun swept bronzed.
The Eyes:
This is where the fun comes in and you can keep the look from looking too dead. Bring in your shimmers, golds, coppers and bronzes here. Apply just to the eyelids and under the bottom lashes. Keep the color away from the bone of the eye so that the focus is closer to the lashes. Apply mascara and you’re ready to go. Skip the black eyeliner as this will only take away from the ‘nude’ look.

Kevyn Aucoin The Essential Eyeshadow Single, Bronze
The LIps:
Here you can also up the look if you want. Go for a nude lipstick or bring some color in seen all over the runways coral lip. Key is to keep the color matte, with no shine and let the shimmer of your eyeshadow be the star. Keep it matte, no shimmer, no gloss on the lips to update the look. I know, hard to do after years of glossy glossy, but it might just grow on you.
