MAKEUP PRESENTATION:
BILLY B. “Beautiful Makeup” Master Workshop
The highlight is Billy B.’s workshop.
No, I take that back. The highlight was actually meeting Billy B. in person and discovering that he actually knew me from the review I wrote last year on his class. He was so sweet, and when I asked if I could take a picture with him, he jokingly said of course, but as long as he looked good. You and me both Billy!

Elke hearts Billy.

His presentation? The best.
Billy strongly stated how important it is in this business to ‘not worry about what other people do.’ As in comparing yourself and your career to another’s. I’m sure guilty of that, as in, “why didn’t I get that magazine editorial????” But it sure was nice to hear that I’m not the only one who goes through that. Even someone as up there on the ladder as Billy is gets that way too. And it’s a vicious cycle to get into, but I think as creative souls, you can’t help it. But just hearing that no matter how high up you get, you can still think that way? It actually made me feel better and really feel that I and anyone else in this business, truly don’t have to worry and compare. We all do what we do best.
His #1 most important tip?
Not to rely on photoshop. Or to work as if it’s not there. I agree. Photographers, believe me, do not want to fix your mistakes. They would either A. shoot, or B. photoshop to enhance the image.. not fix.
And whatever needs to be photoshopped? That’s what you need to improve on and get better at. A great tip.
Billy B.’s makeup tips and tricks:
1. Uses a super rich moisturizer before applying any makeup.
2. Women of color can take so much more makeup in terms of color and amount.
3. Feels silicone based foundations changed the way we do makeup.
4. Uses only powders (loose) to contour and highlight the face, not foundations or liquids.
5. Focus on what can look dated. And stop doing it.
6. Translucent powder on dark skin will go ashy, or gray.
7. Uses a warm yellow pressed powder to highlight dark skin.
8. Uses dual foundations as highlights.
9. Recommended Black Opal Honey stick foundation.
10. Uses a very small ‘tail’ brush in small areas to highlight face with loose powder and shimmers.
11. Shiny? Just take a brush and buff the skin. More powder may not be needed.
12. Uses reddish brown to contour on darker skin tones, rather than a muddy brown.
13. Loves using shimmering loose powders to highlight skin in certain key places only, not the whole face. But avoid the glitter.
14. Loves Loreal Voluminous Mascara.
15. Applies shimmer loose powder on the bridge of the nose to create a highlight.
