REVIEW: Maybelline’s Mineral Makeup

Maybelline is just one of the many major make up lines that is adding mineral makeup to it’s main makeup collections. But does it have what it takes to take on the major mineral makeup players like Bare Escentuals?

I was sent from their PR their mineral makeup offerings in several varieties to play with. Their latest additions to the mineral makeup wardrobe includes:
Mineral Powder Makeup
Mineral Powder Illluminator.
Mineral Powder Bronzer

First off, their Mineral Powder Makeup:

Sadly, this just didn’t make the cut for me. Spoiled by Bare Escentuals and Purely Cosmetic’s amazing coverage that I’m getting so used to, this felt like it did nothing on my skin. Not even the slightest hint of coverage or evening out red or pink skin tones. So I’m now sadly just using this as a setting powder before/after eye shadow or blush. But other than that, I really wouldn’t call it a mineral makeup if you’re looking for a hint of color, or even a glow for that matter.

So that said, the next was their Mineral Powder Illuminator.

Now this I had high hopes for. Really. But again, it delivered virtually nothing. Their copy says: 100% micro-minerals brighten up your complexion for a year-round, sheer shimmer, healthy glow.

Well, try as I might, I couldn’t see any shimmer at all. Not even a glow… I found myself twisting and turning to get that light angle just right because I thought that maybe my lighting in my bathroom just didn’t hit it right. Not even outside did it produce much of anything. So on to that last..

Geez, finally something I can write something good about. Though the color looks really dark in the container, it’s actually a brown with a touch of orange in it. Again, I thought my really light skin would look horribly fake in this, but it actually went on softer and browner than I thought. Just note that the little bronzer brush, though cute, really did a number on my skin with the bristles feeling very raw and stiff on my cheeks. Not good. So just use this instead as a touch up brush to throw in your purse instead.
