Mac’s Latest Collection shares their theory:
“Intent on a universal focus, a collection that extends our range with new shades to match every international skin tone. But that’s not all. Because brows speak louder than words, two new products to help you express their style. In every language these are wow!”
Did I read that right? Universal colors that are meant to work with every skin tone.

Really? Somewhat skeptical, I thought I’d put it to the test. So based on the partial collection that was sent to me from MAC reps, I thought I’d try out every color and see if they were truly universal. Let’s see how this works on a very light skin, dark medium brown hair, eyes and brows kinda gal. Meaning me. Let’s see shall we?
First off, the shades are mainly light to dark neutral nude tones. From pale soft whites, to dark browns, any neutral makeup fan will be rejoicing to be able to add more nude tones to a probably already over flowing makeup nude palette. (Yep, add me to that fan club, ok?)
From the entire All Ages, All Races, All Sexes Collection, I tried out the following. See below for my notes.

Yep, count me a fan. A shimmering sparkly creamy white, this looks gorgeous. A touch on the brow bone and I’m a fan. Sparkle sparkle and I’m dreaming already of different ways to wear. All over the eye lids, with a touch of nude shadowing in the crease, a touch over lip gloss for an am to pm look, etc. Beautiful and very snow white effect for the pale skin/dark hair types.
Beauty Powder Blush in “All’s Good“, a cool deep rose.

Huh? Did I misread the memo here? It actually looks more like a shimmery rusty brown to me. And on my light skin, it reads more like a bronzer, but good in a way. Not orange, or muddy, or red. Think of a warm brown… it’s a touch dark, but applied lightly, it looks good on.

Again, I’m stumped. A dirty matte brown this sure is. But yellow brown? Yellow? Don’t see it, even when color swatching. If you want a deep, dark dirty brown, this sure is it. A bit too dark and muddy for my taste, even if doing a smoky eye. If you want to play, pair this with a rosy lip to keep from getting too heavy or bland in the look, as in no nude lip with this one. Hint: Works great as a eye liner shadow on me.
Banshee Eye Shadow

Again, what? This looks more like a silvery mauve, than a taupe, as in you see more purple in the tone than anything. Though it’s light, it has tons of silver glittery touches to it that looks pretty on. A pretty on the lid only type of color.
Equality Lipstick

Creamy pale yellow beige (Lustre) (seen above)
Wow, if you’re looking to wipe out any traces of lip color in your lips, this will do it. But as a stand alone lip color, this makes me feel as if I’ve erased the lips right off my face. And the yellow in the beige doesn’t look pretty…. I’m tempted to put this under my brows for a highlight glossy effect instead. But for lips I’ll have to pass. Just one question: just WHAT skin tone would wear this?
Wow, this one sure surprises me. Looking much darker in the tube, and way more brown, I would pass this one right up. But on, the sheerness of it makes it work. And the touch of plum brightens up the brown a touch so it doesn’t seem too brown or heavy. Hint: I also like wearing this on cheeks too for a glossy dewy look. I know, count me experimental.
Naked Frost Lipglass (tint)

This is so pretty, and it’s a new favorite. It’s softer on, and looks more beige on than taupe. And the pretty silver pearl makes it a very pretty every day weekend look. Lov.
Spirit & Soul Lipglass (tint)

Brown? Well, not really. The soft tinted effect makes this really soft and ups my lip color a touch, and the frost makes this shade really pretty. Count me a fan again.
Mink is brown right? Well, last I looked. So I was looking forward to using this on my dark brown brows. But it actually made my brows look more like a soft black. Not really what I was hoping it would do. Gotta pass on this one. I’ll use it as a mascara tint instead.
Okay, I’m not really expecting all these shades to work on me.. because you really want to match your brow pencil to your brows, so a Taupe or Dirty Blonde shade I know will not work on me. So I’ll play.
Colors include:
Taupe:
Is a super light brown with a touch of gray in in.
Dirty Blonde:
Dirty Blonde is darker than blonde, with a touch of red in it. I use this as a light lip pencil.
Black:
The black is a soft black, that I’ll use as a eye liner.
Blonde;
Again, a light blonde/brown with more of a yellow base to it. Again, I’ll use as a lip pencil in a pinch.
Have you gotten? What shades worked for you?
