The Perfect Red Lip: Application

201001101736-1

Application:
Now you’ve got the red, now it’s time to apply.  You’ve got the red lipstick, the next thing you need is a red lip pencil. Try to find one in the same brand as the lipstick you got for a better color match.  Red is one of the few lip colors that I recommend that you get a matching lip pencil for. (Lighter, softer colors can be matched with a more nude lip color shade that blends in.)

Prep:
Prep your lips by applying a light foundation shade (the matter the better…and keep light in texture, heavy foundation sticks can go on too thick and smeary and actually lighten your lipstick color in the process).  Try Smashbox’s Lip & Lid Primer for a easy fix. Smashbox suggests to apply LIP PRIMER to bottom lip only and press lips together, then apply your lip product.

Apply now your lip color to your lips with the tube. Then take your lip brush and blend out to the lip edges, creating a smooth even line.  Then take your matching lip pencil and line your lips, as if you were applying before your lipstick.  Because your lip color is already on, you;ll have an easier time applying and getting the lip shape right.  Then blot. If you want, do these color steps (lipstick and lip pencil) to keep the color on hours longer.  And you’re all set.

Tips:
Oily foods like salad dressing and such will ‘eat off’ your lipstick quicker, regardless of what shade. Why? Because oil acts like a makeup remover, it easily dissolves your product.. so just be aware after your breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Touch Ups:
Touch ups are easy. Remember that matching lip pencil? Just apply where needed and you’re good to go.

The best red long lasting red lipstick I’ve found yet? Clinique’s Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick. Stayed on for hours with no feathering, bleeding or wearing off. Loved.
