Check out his hair blog where we found this super cool ‘tattoo’ trick for a hair look.

Hair Type:
The #1 complaint by women with fine hair is that it’s flat and limp, so it’s a good idea to rough dry this hair type to open the cuticle and create texture and volume. Try applying Redken spray starch 15 from scalp to ends before drying. Medium to coarse hair should not be rough dried, the cuticle needs to be smoothed for a sleek, frizz free finish. Try blending Redken glass 01 and contour 08 in hands and apply in sections throughout head to calm and refine curl, and control expansion.

Tools:
When blow-drying hair, use a brush and focus on heat , tension and cooling . The blow-dryer provides the heat, the brush is used to create tension to stretch and manipulate the hydrogen bonds in the hair to change its shape, and the cooling sets the hair. If hair is not dried thoroughly or cooled, it springs back to its original nature. Cooling acts as a fixative for the style, it locks the bonds in place. (Try Sam Villa Signature Series Brushes: Round Brush Small/$29.95, Oval Brush Medium/$39.95, Oval Brush Large/$47.95, Style Brush/$35.95, 9 Row Finishing Brush/$29.95 and Paddle Brush/$29.95, available at The Redken Gallerie/212-984-5027)

Product:
When using volumizing products, keep in mind that they have polymers (fixatives), so apply them where you want the hair most responsive. For instance, for an updo, spray everywhere because volume is needed to build the look, but for most everyday styles, focus on the crown of the head and skip areas like the nape of the neck that don’t require the fullness.

Application:
Less is more. Always emulsify and apply volumizers from scalp to ends and smoothers from ends upward. Note: Using a wide toothed comb (Try the Sam Villa Signature Series Wide Cutting Comb/$5.00, available at The Redken Gallerie/212-984-5027) can help distribute products evenly. Keep in mind that mousse is used for volume (try Redken full frame 07 ), lotion for smoothness (try Redken thickening lotion 06 ), and gel for hold (try new and improved Redken hardwear 16 ). Villa’s favorite new product is *Redken aerate 08 bodifying cream-mousse . It contains the lightness of a mousse, the moisturizing and shine properties of a cream, the volumizing benefits of cellulose and it helps block humidity.

Hold:
Always remember to finish any style with fashionable control by using Redken hairsprays – hold factors are designated numbers on the bottle and range from medium to maximum.
