If you’re like me, you’ve got a drawer full of lipsticks that are just sitting there. Either it’s a past color trend which looks outdated now, (cough: remember that horrendous Pepto Bismo color that was an ‘it’, but really a ‘not’?) or a texture that just didn’t make the bill, (too shiny, too matte or just doesn’t stay on). Lipsticks are easy to collect, but hard to figure out what to do with if it’s one that just doesn’t work.
Don’t worry. You’re about to discover that you have a whole drawer full of creative goodies that you can still play with. So don’t throw away that lipstick. Get creative.
Lipstick is too…..

shiny: Use as a cream blush. hint: sheen to cheeks is going to come back soon. So get ahead of the trend and try it now.. you’ll feel fresh and trendy.

matte: Super matte is not in at the moment (yes; think creamy and/or satin texures for the new fall trend). So what to do with all those old mattes? Super dry ones can get revitalized with your fav lip balm. Just apply your lip balm first, then with a lip brush (key: straight from the tube will apply too much) apply a light coat of your super matte lipstick color over. Blend lips together and viola. A new creamy sheer shade.

disappears: We all have those. Lipsticks that apply great, but in 20 minutes; well. Let’s just say it plays with your sanity because you could have sworn you applied it, but alas, it’s gone. You can either play lipstick doctor by making it work or use it for something else.
Make it work with a little bit of makeup trick power. Usually lipsticks that fade do because they have way too much wax in it, making them disappear and fade all too quickly. And those lipsticks that bleed? Yep. Too much wax is the culprit there too.
Tip: Apply a super light dusting of translucent powder first on lips first. Then tap your lipstick on your lips. Tap, not drag. You want to apply the lipstick over the powder, not blend it in or you’ll get a weird grainy, powdery mixtured mess. Then take a kleenex and blot. Tap on your lipstick again if needed to get the desired color. Blot again. Viola, a new textured lipstick that will stay on hours longer. Really. Want a touch of glow to that shade? Dot on your fav lip balm or gloss on top.
