If you’re plagued with red skin tones, pink undertones, or fight constantly to keep the redness of acne or rosacea at bay, you’ll be glad that Clinique is around. Why? They’ve come up with the cure-all to keep your skin looking it’s best.
I got the chance to personally try out their newest “Redness Solutions”
Makeup and put it to the test. In all fairness, I really don’t have THAT big a problem with redness. But on a not so great day, I’ll have to deal with covering the occasional red zit, redness (that never seems to go away) around my nose, and the slight pink that shows up in my skin when I’m tired and stressed because my skin is just pretty much overall fair and light in color.
So here it goes. Enter
Redness Solutions Makeup SPF 15
Targeted Concealer
Mineral Powder.
At first glance, the products (especially the concealer) look really, really yellow. As in, this will make me look yellowy sick if I put this on my pale skin. But I jump in with the Concealer first:
PR info says: Lab-certified to neutralize redness on contact. Goes to work instantly-slipping yellow-corrective colour onto skin without pulling or tugging. Ideal for all over, or for targeting stubborn spots. Partner with new Redness Solutions Makeup SPF 15.
Yep, it’s yellow. So I apply and happily, it blends in really easily and I can soften it with no problem. But still, there’s a yellow tint (or more if you apply more) that’s concealing nicely here.
Next is the Makeup SPF 15.
Soothing oil-free makeup instantly colour-corrects flushing, blushing. Calming ingredients help minimize flare-ups. Beneficial probiotic technology helps strengthen skin’s barrier. Keeps environmental triggers at bay with SPF plus antioxidants.
Wow, does this thing cover. Gone is not only my yellow tint, but my darker skin tones and my skin looks great. Even better, my skin doesn’t look like it’s under a super duper heavy mask of foundation… and even with blending, it still looks pretty good and still covers… a A+ here for me. Even after continued usage, I’m also happy to report that I experienced no breakouts, or whiteheads from the products; another happy plus.
Last but not least, came Instant Mineral Relief Powder. This also is pretty yellow.
Almost to the point that I felt that I really didn’t need it. The foundation covered so much that I found myself only using this on those bad days, and just using my regular powder instead the rest of the time.
Unique mineral treatment measurably reduces redness on contact. It’s lab-certified. Under its care and cover, visible redness and broken capillaries virtually disappear-instantly and for hours. Patent-pending formula helps skin “keep its cool.” Oil-free, talc-free. With anti-bacterial brush. Appropriate for skins with mild-to-moderate Rosacea or reactive redness.
I can see totally using this for those bad cases when more is needed. I recommend going into Clinique and trying them out to see what combination of the three is best for you. The concealer or powder might be all you need, or you can use all 3 to get through those bad days….
Overall I was very impressed and happy with the results. So don’t let the strong yellow tones scare you. Yellow is a better color to conceal pink, red and even brown tones for a more even, natural result, rather than the ‘mint green’ that was popular years ago. (try to hide that color with foundation.. much harder…)
On a funny note, mint green concealer brings back an incident in my photography days. Years ago (and I do mean years ago) I was doing a makeup for a photo shoot. And this was way before photo shop was mainstream and using computers to view your work as you went. Nope, back then, it was all about film and waiting for the proof sheets to come in weeks later. On this shoot, the model had small red breakouts on her skin, so mint green concealer was used to dot apply and cover. Foundation over and the shoot begins.
The photographer called me over to view the shot in the camera’s lens and asks me what was going on. To my horror, because of the lighting, the poor model had little green dots on her face that couldn’t be seen to the eye, but could be seen with the lights on her. Needless to say, a fast fix was needed.. but I’ll never forget that photo shoot with the girl with the green dots.
