What Is the Next Big Hair Trend?

“Other
than lots of highlights and a big brunette bang, there hasn’t been a
strong contemporary hair color trend in a while,” shares Patrick McIvor, Matrix Artistic Director and owner of patrick mcivor color studio.  So what is the next big hair trend? Thanks to ever changing fashion, hair color is now about change, having fun and making it easy to maintain.

Bold color is hot
it doesn’t have to glow in the dark or be pink, it just can’t be boring .   Light brown hair with some highlights? Sorry, that’s so last year.  Instead, go for medium brown/dark hair that’s intense, flawless and glossy to stand out. “The new highlights make hair lighter, create
texture, whimsy and fun – think Mila Kunis.  Women want to get these highlights, they don’t have to,” explains McIvor.

Renee Bargh and
Reese Witherspoon are two of McIvor’s favorites this season – they’re
blonde, but the effect works on any color of hair. “Renee’s hair is the
perfect balance of the new Ombré color technique (dark to light fade of
color, think Rachel Bilson, Drew Barrymore, SJP and Rhea Durham) with a
classic bombshell blonde.  It’s perfect because it’s a contemporary
blonde without the upkeep of a classic blonde. The reason is, these
highlights begin farther from the scalp and the color gets brighter and
blonder as it reaches the tips of the hair.  It’s ideal because it
allows women to decide when and how often they want to maintain their
color,” explains McIvor.

“Reese’s hair is
blonde on blonde – an all over light blonde with graduated highlights
that begin natural towards the scalp and increase in brightness,
lightness and drama as they finish at the ends. The variegation in the
highlights is what gives interest, texture, dimensions and unexpected
excitement. The best part is, since they don’t go to the scalp, they
never loose their fresh look,” he adds.

McIvor suggests using a shampoo and conditioner that contain antioxidants to help fight fading and prolong color brilliance.  Matrix Biolage colorcarethérapie Delicate Care Shampoo (10 oz./$18.00) and Conditioner (8.5 oz./$19.00) are sulfate-free to help preserve the natural lipid balance and color vibrancy.
