Her work has graced the covers of high fashion magazines and she’s painted the tips of some of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood – Michelle Saunders is one of the most sought-after celebrity manicurists on the West Coast and now, she’s sharing her secrets of long-lasting manicures and high-end nail care.
“It’s all about the preparation,” says Michelle who preps her client’s nail beds twice, before ever opening up a bottle of polish. “You could say I give them a ‘double-double,’ I soak twice, push twice and trim the cuticles twice.” Her thorough technique has paid off as she has an impressive roster of famous clients such as Jennifer Lopez, Kate Beckinsale and Claudia Schiffer to name a few, plus she’s the go-to manicurist on the West Coast for dozens of high-fashion magazines including Vogue, Elle, W, Harpers Bazaar, and Vanity Fair.
When she’s not working in the celebrity and editorial world, Michelle can be found in the production world overseeing the top hand models in the business. “I love being an on set manicurist. Working on a hand model, whose job is to make a product look good, is much different than working on a celebrity who wants their nails to pop on the red carpet.” Michelle – who has worked on million dollar ad campaigns for companies such as Apple and L’Oréal – says creating natural looking, beautiful hands that blend in so the product shines, is just as challenging as prepping nails for a perfect polish.
Michelle is a San Francisco native and has more than a decade of experience in high-end nail care. She started her training as a manicurist at Chanel boutiques in the San Francisco Bay area and ultimately ended up running her own, successful, appointment-only salon. After more than ten years, she moved to Los Angeles where her career took off. Her work can be seen in magazines, billboards, television commercials, movies and on the red carpet.
