Transform Your Hair For Fall

Celebrity stylist and owner of the eponymously-named salon, Adrian De Berardinis, offers an inside look on how to transform your tresses for fall.

FAUX FRENCH BRAID
Just because you were not blessed with exceptional French braiding capabilities does not mean you have to miss out on this season’s hottest hair trend. There are a variety of styles you can create using this simple technique, from a single braid to a whole head of faux braids.

  1. Make sure to have some bobby pins handy.
  2. Give hair texture with texturizing spray, rough drying with a blow dryer, or sleeping on a day old style.
  3. After, brush out entire head to smooth hair.
  4. Choose an entire section you’d like to braid and part that section in the middle.
  5. Next, simply take a small piece with lots of texture from one half and fold over to opposite half and secure with a bobby pin.
  6. Take another piece from the second side, folding that over the initial piece and pin.
  7. Continue crossing and pinning pieces until you’ve achieved your desired faux French braid.

FAIL- SAFE FISHTAIL
Fishtails are having their moment on the tresses of Hollywood’s hottest starlets and glossy pages of fashion editorials, but they’re easy enough for anyone to achieve.

  1. Start off by securing hair with an elastic where you’d like the fishtail to start.
  2. Then separate the ponytail into two halves.
  3. Take a small section – between one centimeter and one inch, depending on how fine you’d like the pieces to be – from the back of one half, wrap around and join with the front of the opposite half.
  4. Repeat with the other half, wrapping a small section from the back and joining with the front of the opposite half, making sure to tighten by pulling the two halves away from one another.
  5. Repeat this process until you reach the bottom of the hair or secure with an elastic halfway down the braid for a fun variation on the trend.

9 1/2 WEEKS BOB
“The Bob is the one cut that never goes out of style and is appropriate at any age – but steer clear of exaggerated or inverted cuts,” says Adrian. Instead, opt for the hottest cut for fall, the textured bob a la Alexa Chung or Kim Basinger in 9 ½ Weeks. This low maintenance ‘do not only works for just about everyone, but it’s completely fashion forward. When styling the bob, Adrian says to “start one inch from the root and wrap sections around a 1 ½” curling iron creating one full rotation, leaving ends out.” Mess up the curls a little bit with your fingers to create separation. The bob looks best when messy and textured, but not frizzy. Always keep hair moisturized to prevent unruly frizz. If you’re crunched for time, there’s no need to style the textured bob, just spritz in some texturizing spray and head out the door. Next step:  keep your eye out for a young Mickey Rourke lookalike.

IRISH SETTER RED
Cherry bomb red was all the rage earlier this year, but fall is the time to tone down wild reds for a softer look. The best red for fall is a washed down auburn, similar to an Irish Setter’s coat of hair. (Seriously, bring a picture of this dog to your color specialist and we promise not to judge.) The sultry red is the perfect way to update your color during the colder months.
