Dermatologist Tips On Keeping Your Skin Winter Safe

  • Sharebar

If you’re dreading the cold winter months and what it will do to wreak havic on your skin, we got the latest tips for you from top Dermatologist, Dr. Marina Peredo, Founder and Medical Director of Spatique Medical Spa to help you get through the winter, and keep your skin healthy all year round.

  • When showering, always use lukewarm water.  Hot water robs the skin of moisture, which will exacerbate dry skin.  Use a moisturizing bar soap or a cleansing lotion that contains glycerin or petroleum for extra hydration.
  • After showering, pat your skin dry (do not rub) because damp skin absorbs moisturizers better.  I recommend a glycolic moisturizer because it exfoliates the dead skin cells and moisturizes the new skin.
  • The face is the area of the body that is most exposed when facing the elements, so keeping it hydrated and protected is very important.  I suggest a sheer moisturizing facial sunscreen that contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump and it must have UVA/UVB protection.  For those with sensitive skin, use a non-comedogenic, paraben-free and fragrance free formulation to avoid irritation.
  • To cure winter chapped lips, moisten the skin with cool water, which makes the top layer of your skin become more permeable and allows the products to lock in moisture. Do this twice a day.  The effect of this routine are smooth silky lips making it easy and effortless to apply lip color throughout the day.
  • Before bedtime, a more emollient moisturizer that contains aloe or yucca base as well as vitamins A, C, E, Co-Q10 and Green Tea are all beneficial in minimizing free-radical damage caused by outside elements and also hydrates without clogging pores while you sleep.
