When it comes to choosing new makeup shades, most women rely on their skin tone to select colors that will look best. A manicure is an easy way to test-drive an eye catching new shade, and the same rules apply. ORLY Education Manager Catherine Baek has easy tips to determine the difference between warm and cool skin tones and offers ORLY lacquers to complement every shade.
Keep it COOL
Cool skin tones are characterized by blue undertones with rose, beige-rose or dark grey-blue tones. If the underside of the wrist has pink shades and the veins appear blue, this indicates a cool skin tone. Those with cool tones also look best in silver jewelry. Celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Megan Fox and Keira Knightley are all members of the cool club. Pinks, violets, raspberries and blue-reds pop against these complexions . ORLY Basket Case, Haute Red, Purple Crush, Fancy Fuchsia and Rock-It are cool shades that are sure to flatter.
WARM it Up
Warm skin tones usually have yellow or bronze undertones. The best way to determine a warm skin tone is if the underside of the wrist has yellow or bronze undertones and the veins appear green. Those with warm complexions look better sporting gold jewelry than silver. Celebrities in the hot zone include Jessica Alba, Charlize Theron and Beyoncé. Peach, apricot, salmon, coral, peach-pink, orange, earthy hues, browns, bronze and brick-reds give warm skin an alluring glow. ORLY options include Peachy Parrot, Terracotta, Gilded Coral, Hot Chocolate and Luxe.
All ORLY lacquers can be found for $7.50 each at Ulta stores and ORLYBeauty.com.
