HOLIDAY Makeup Look: Red Lips

With the holidays approaching, it’s time to get out the makeup and party! The holiday’s are the most fun time and the perfect excuse to play with your makeup. This is the time you want to look glamorous, dramatic, gorgeous, stunning, breath taking… you get the picture…

So what’s a girl to do?With so many parties to attend and so little time….. I’ve narrowed it down to the top 4 makeup looks that you just gotta try, along with a few makeup techniques thrown in…

Look #1: The Classic Red Lip
Red lips become the holiday staple around the holidays, and with good reason. Sexy but not too sexy, glamorous, and just evokes the beauty icons of the 40′s. Elegance wrapped up all into one glamorous look. So keep it modern this holiday season.
THE red of the moment?
The darkest, truest red you can find.

The key is to keep the red as dark and as true as you can find. No boysenberry, or plummy reds this season. It’s a deep gothic blood red.

Key to getting dark red lips on?
You need a dark deep red lip pencil. Yep, red is one of those colors where you’ll be glad you paired it with a matching lip pencil. Cause when the red pigment in the lipstick wears down, the pencil will be there to back it up.

Can’t find a pencil to match completely? In this case, you can keep the pencil slightly lighter than the lipstick, so when the lipstick wears off, it’ll still look normal. A darker pencil under will change your lipstick color too much.
Application trick: Nervous about getting that lip pencil on perfect? Well, it doesn’t have to be tooo perfect. If you want viva glam ala 40′s, well, then yes. Perfect is the way to go.
Apply your lip pencil on the middle of the lips first, then line. But don’t worry about it. Now apply your lipstick as normal (lip brushes are great for getting the right amount on for less bleeding and feathering.) Okay, lipstick on. Now, now blot, and now go over your lip line again with the pencil but create your perfect line now. You’ll find it much easier to do. Why? You already have something on and it’s much easier to draw when there’s something there to guide you, rather than from scratch. See? That wasn’t so hard.

PINK PRODUCT REVIEW: Clinique Butter Shade Lipstick in PInk Ribbon

Opening this little gem was just a constant arrival of surprises that just got better and better.

First off, the silver lipstick case. With it’s super cute little pink Clinique name closure. Sooo cute. Open it up and you get a little square mirror which has the pink ribbon on it. What an awesome idea and a great gift idea to give to someone who is battling cancer or who wants to have one in memory of someone who is.

But don’t forget the best part. The specially designed pink lipstick tube comes in the color “Ribbon Pink” and it’s just perfect! First of all, it looks a bit pinker in the tube than it does on. On, this shade is a soft pink ‘lip’ shade, with the most gorgeous ‘tons of’ shimmer in a lipstick. Expect more shimmer than intense color but I loved it. Perfect to throw on for that slightly more casual day, or to layer over any other color for a night out. Since I’m not a pinky pink lip color kind of girl, this shade is definitely going in my everyday wear supply. Lov!

This special Limited Edition shade of Butter Shine Lipstick in Pink Ribbon is sheer enough yet works with all skin tones. An ultra shiny color and a buttery smooth (hence the name) finish.

$10 per Butter Shine Lipstick in Ribbon Pink sold during the month of October will be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Research Foundation.

PINK PRODUCT REVIEW: Bobbi Brown Pink Ribbon Collection

Of course Bobbi Brown is donating to the Breast Cancer Awareness Research Foundation. Not only did she create a beautiful limited edition set, but she is also donating $35,000 in connection to the North American sales of her pink product. How cool is that?

Her limited edition set consists of two lip items, a lipstick in her top seller Tulle shade, and her exclusive Pink Glitter Lip Gloss. At first glance, these two pinks, are just that. Two different pinks. Both packaged in a pink glossy carton.
Her Tulle Lipstick is a very mauvy brownish pink. Much like your lip shade, just think a bit browner, or for lack of a better work, muddier. I actually liked this shade when blotted down a bit and it looked more like my lip color.
The Pink Glitter Lip Gloss is more of an icy blue based pink with a ton of shimmer in it for a more silvery pink.
While both shades looked great on their own, I actually liked it best when the lip gloss was worn over the lipstick. This gave the warm deep lipstick more of a glow and looked great.
Available at all Bobbi Brown Counters or online at
