Holiday Makeup Look: Pink Cheeks

You thought I was going to say red didn’t you. That wine, stained blush that makes you look like you’ve been out in the snow all day. No, that’s your day look. For night? Think different… pink. Ank pink cheeks is the cutest way to update your red lip look.

And I’m not talking baby doll pink. I’m talking PINK. But don’t worry. It’ll be wearable…in a holiday way you’ll love. I promise.

Givenchy in Glowing Rose

This is the easiest look yet. Smile, apply to apples of cheeks. Then grab that red lipstick… black mascara… no shadow.

Fresh, clean, young… simple.

To update? My fav trick ever… take your shimmering powder, like

Dior Night Diamond Luminizer

then smile and then right on the top of the apple of your cheeks, not the middle, but the top near your eyes? Apply a touch. There you go. Shimmer baby cheeks… so pretty..especially in candlelight..

HOLIDAY Makeup Look: Red Lips

With the holidays approaching, it’s time to get out the makeup and party! The holiday’s are the most fun time and the perfect excuse to play with your makeup. This is the time you want to look glamorous, dramatic, gorgeous, stunning, breath taking… you get the picture…

So what’s a girl to do?With so many parties to attend and so little time….. I’ve narrowed it down to the top 4 makeup looks that you just gotta try, along with a few makeup techniques thrown in…

Look #1: The Classic Red Lip
Red lips become the holiday staple around the holidays, and with good reason. Sexy but not too sexy, glamorous, and just evokes the beauty icons of the 40’s. Elegance wrapped up all into one glamorous look. So keep it modern this holiday season.
THE red of the moment?
The darkest, truest red you can find.
LIke Kat Von D in200811051657.jpg
200811051658.jpg MISFIT (a deep blood red) or
200811051658.jpg HELLBENT (a true blue deep red.)
The key is to keep the red as dark and as true as you can find. No boysenberry, or plummy reds this season. It’s a deep gothic blood red.
LIke Urban Decay’s Lipstick

Key to getting dark red lips on?
You need a dark deep red lip pencil. Yep, red is one of those colors where you’ll be glad you paired it with a matching lip pencil. Cause when the red pigment in the lipstick wears down, the pencil will be there to back it up.

Can’t find a pencil to match completely? In this case, you can keep the pencil slightly lighter than the lipstick, so when the lipstick wears off, it’ll still look normal. A darker pencil under will change your lipstick color too much.
Application trick: Nervous about getting that lip pencil on perfect? Well, it doesn’t have to be tooo perfect. If you want viva glam ala 40’s, well, then yes. Perfect is the way to go.
Apply your lip pencil on the middle of the lips first, then line. But don’t worry about it. Now apply your lipstick as normal (lip brushes are great for getting the right amount on for less bleeding and feathering.) Okay, lipstick on. Now, now blot, and now go over your lip line again with the pencil but create your perfect line now. You’ll find it much easier to do. Why? You already have something on and it’s much easier to draw when there’s something there to guide you, rather than from scratch. See? That wasn’t so hard.

HOW TO: Spring Makeup Trend #3: The colored eye

The BEST Beauty Trends Spring Fashion Week:

Spring Makeup Trend #3
The colored eye.

Finally some color found it’s way into the spring runway looks. And the two biggest colors? Golds and bronzes and lavendar and lilacs. Two totally different looks. Now usually, I’d say blondes get the lilac version and brunettes get the golds and bronzes, but in this case, it’s everyone can play. It’s just a matter of what you like better. Lilacs and lavender’s look best on lighter skin, and brings a crisp cool feel to your look. The golds and bronzes bring out a summer tan waiting to happen and looks good on all skin tones….. with a new twist on how to wear it though.

The How To’s
Bronzes and Coppers

Literally, this bronzy golden look is the same colors used throughout the whole face. Eyes, cheeks and lips. No longer are we just slapping on bronzer over our regular makeup look. Nope, this season it’s about making the whole face bronzed.

The eyes always will get the stronger of the look, with a darker feel on the eyelids blended up to the eyebrows.
Want more? Apply under the eyes as well. Throw on mascara. Pencil if you want. Your eyes are done. But the trick is to use actual bronzer on your eyes.

Start by applying a bronzer darker than you think, like

CARGO Bronzer Dark
on cheeks, tops of forehead and on the eyelids…

Want a more matte version? Try the CARGO Bronzer Medium in Matte.

Okay, want a little more color? Am loving this palette:

Dior Bronze Sunshine Blush Sunrise Party 001

Then complete your look with a bronzy lip, using
Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick Bronze Bombshell 420, or

Lancome JUICY TUBES SMOOTHIE – Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss Sun Bronze.

Want to make this look a nighttime version? Just apply a dark brown or black pencil around the lashes, top and bottom, smudge, up that shiny golden lip gloss and you’re ready to go…..

The Violet Eye
How To’s

But my most favorite look? (and yes, I think I saved the best for last) is the new violet/lilac eye… lov. No, not every runway was doing this, but this was such a breath of fresh air that I just had to share. And if you’re a brown eyed girl? You’re so going to love this.

This palette is so perfect, I can’t stand it,.

DuWop Violet Eyes

Even the Pop Beauty Eye Cake in Violet Eyes will work.

You can go as dramatic or as soft as you want. The new violet? Is more of an icy violet.. on the light side. And applied all the way to the eyebrows….. want a little more color? Think of a color wash of lavender across the eye lids and underneath the bottom lashes.

The trick: it’s in the brush. The softer and fluffier and the bigger the eye shadow brush the better. Color goes on lighter, softer and almost airbrushed on in feel. That’s the look you want.

Bare Escentuals Eye Defining Brush

Bare Escentuals Full Tapered Shadow Brush

Trick: Apply the shadow near the lashes first and then blend up to the crease. Need more? Apply again to the lash line and then blend up every time. You’ll get a airbrushed blend of color going from darker near the lashes to the lighter near the crease without streaking or splotching.

Feeling a bit shy? Just try a lavender pencil lined around the lashes.

Sephora Brand Jumbo Pencil – Eye Violet 505Y

or even

Stila Convertible Eye Color Violet

Pair with black mascara, top and bottom and you just updated your look.

HOW TO: Spring Makeup Trend #2: The Bold Eyebrow

The BEST Beauty Trends Spring Fashion Week:

Spring Makeup Trend #1
The strong eyebrow.

Yep, the strong eyebrow is still going strong. Even for the fall collections, the eyebrow was getting thicker and darker. But that’s the runway. Here in the real world, we’ll keep it more wearable looking, ok?

Now if you’re new to the strong eyebrow look, it can be a bit daunting. Just go slow… it just might grow on you.

The How To’s

First of all, look at the eyebrows you’ve got. Going from a light blonde eyebrow to a dark brown is not the trend. Going a few shades darker than YOUR eyebrow shade is. The trick is to use a shadow, not a pencil. Take a eyebrow shadow or a regular eye shadow color that looks exactly your like your eyebrow hair color. Trick: The shadow will always look darker on.

Anastasia Brow Filler Blonde/Brunette
What it is:A spring loaded powder tipped sponge duo for eyebrows. What it does:The unique powder formula is designed to be slightly damp so that it can adhere to the skin, versus brow hair allowing one to build color only where it is needed. What else you need to know:Brow Filler offers blonde on one end and brunette on the other, allowing you to use one side or blend both shades for a customized color match.

Draw your shadow on with a soft, super thin angle brush.

Anastasia Small Brow Shader 23

Draw your shadow line at the bottom line or edge of your eyebrow and then blend up into the brow. Then with a clean eyebrow brush, brush through so the shadow blends into your skin, looking more natural.

Sephora Brand Professionnel Platinum Lash & Eyebrow Comb #21 Professional Lash & Eyebrow Comb

Too afraid of going too dark or looking too severe? You can fake it a bit by applying a colored mascara instead. Dark eyebrows have it easy, by being able to use a regular black mascara, but lighter eyebrows can try the new eyebrow gel by Anastasia.

Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel Espresso

Makes brows look a little thicker and darker, without looking too fake.

The key to making this trend work is keeping the rest of the face clear of color and making the brows the focal point of the whole look. Keep the rest of your makeup in nude tones to make a strong statement.. like a Bare Escentuals Wearable Lip Kit ($40 Value) Wearable Nude

or a Korres Cherry Full Color Gloss Nude 33, or

Guerlain KissKiss Maxi Shine Sheer Colours Volume Effect Nude Shine 644

Pair with a nude shadow:

LORAC Eye Shadow Nude

Stila Eye Shadow Pan Nude (refill)

HOW TO: Spring Makeup Trend #1: The Lined Eye

The BEST Beauty Trends Spring Fashion Week:

Are you ready for spring? I sure am. As soon as there’s that warm feel in the air, I’m changing. Everything. Clothes, hair, makeup. Well, first makeup. Why? It’s the easiest and the most fun I think.

So get your makeup out and let’s start to play. What to do? Here are my three favorite makeup trends worthy of doing this season….

Spring Makeup Trend #1
The black eyeliner.

Seen pretty much all over the spring colletctions, the dark lined eye is major for spring/summer this year. Usually this look is more reserved for the cooler months and a great holiday look, but the runway beauty powers that be decided to mix it up a bit and make it all about the eyes this coming season. The best part? The lined eye can be done literally any which way.

From elegant ladylike to a more smokey, smudged version.

The How To’s.
The Elegant Version

Want a more elegant version of a lined eye? Think strong, bold but in a ladylike way. The trick is in the pencil. And nope, keep away from the liquid liners. Why? Too hard to apply, too messy, hard to fix, hard to clean up, well, just step away….

Instead try my new favorite, a gel pencil. Glides on super dark and easy to apply.

Bourjois Automatic Eyeliner Pencil Noir 41
A twist-up eyeliner pencil, Liner Stylo draws a clean, precise line. The ultra-soft texture is enriched with bees and carnauba wax, which enables Liner Pricision to glide on effortlessly for a precise result, without dragging the delicate skin around the eye.

Trick to doing a dark eyeliner on top? Do all your skin work first, foundation, etc but skip the concealer and foundation under the eyes. At least for now. Do apply on the eyelids though. And then apply a soft matte cream color shadow over the whole eye. Keep the eye clean of any color. Then take your pencil and draw a very thin line across the top lashes from beginning to end. Keep it thin. Like? Now, from the outside corner of the eye, draw a little thicker above and go downwards till you get to the lashes in the middle of the eye. You’re trying to create a wing effect that’s slightly thicker on the outer corners. Trick: Always go from outside to inside. The other way around tends to get too thick and you always tend to go too far out, right? I thought so.

Now the coolest trick of all. You can leave the look like this if you want. Or if you want to go a little more dramatic, do a little flick of the pencil on the outer ends. Problem is, that usually, if you just draw on and continue from the line you just drew, sometimes the little flicked tips are different in size, length, balance. One eye always ends up higher than the other. Trick: Line up your pencil between your top and bottom lashes. There’s this little ‘ledge’, or skin part right between. Line up the pencil there and then just flick it out. Do the other eye. See? Both eyes are exactly the same.

Okay, if you’re dying to do the liquid liner, try instead a felt tip pencil. Much easier and you can do the exact same thing as above.

ck Calvin Klein Electric Edge Liquid Eyeliner Marker Pen 401 Electric Black
What it is:A long-wearing marker pen liquid eyeliner. What it is formulated to do:Electric Edge has a soft felt tip for creating smudge-proof, dramatic looks with easy application. The quick dry formula will wear all day long. What else you need to know:This eyeliner was designed to help you create any look: sweep on a thin delicate line for a well defined eye or go bold with a thicker line for a more dramatic look.

Ways to keep this look modern?
The trick to the new eye lined look? Do a touch on the bottom lashes as well, but just on the outer corners and smudge. You want a softer version underneath. This makes the eye a little more dramatic. Also, keep the cheeks soft, with a light pink blush, like Dior Diorshow Powder Catwalk Pink 003. And lips should be a lip stained color. Think the color of your lip with a sheen. No gloss, just a soft shine. You really want the whole focus to be on the eyeliner…….

The How To’s.
The new Smudged Eye

Okay, so you got the cat eye, liquid eyeliner look down. What if you want a more smudged eye? Try a waterproof eye pencil. Like

Dior Crayon Eyeliner – Waterproof Trinidad Black 094
Finally, a longwearing eyeliner that’s not afraid of water. Each classic shade glides on with precise, mistake-proof ease.

Forget a regular pencil. You want it to go on and stay on right? Take your waterproof pencil and line very lightly around the lashes, both top and bottom. The trick is to do a very thin line. Most people try to create the smudged eye by lining a lot of pencil and then smudging, usually resulting in a too thick and too heavy look. Don’t worry, you’re not done. Just draw on, thin. Now take that super handy smudger at the end of the pencil and lightly smudge around. Lightly. You’re wanting to keep the pencil line in the same spot, not blend it out. Not yet. Is it smudged? Okay, now here comes the fun part.

Take any color eye shadow. Ttrendy shades this season are:

Keep the shadow on the soft frost side, if at all. No super duper shimmery, glittery shades here for this season. Remember a big trend is matte…. (I know, sorry….) so keep your eyes matte too. You know those mineral makeup eye shadows? Those are perfect. Soft, matte with a slight sheen.

A recent fav find: Urban Decay Loose Pigments

Even the handy dandy little brush is perfect…

Now with your shadow, apply over your pencil first with your regular, thin eyeliner brush. Then with a CLEAN Eyeliner Blender Brush, (very important here…) take your clean brush and NOW smudge… blend blend blend. Use a shadow brush that’s fluffy, short and soft. This is your blender tool and only your blender tool. Don’t use to apply, just keep clean and use to blend. You’ll thank me later, really.

Hourglass Shadow Brush No. 3
What it is:A medium sized eyeshadow brush. What it does: No. 3 All Over Eye Shadow Brush is perfect for applying and layering eyeshadow to the lid area. What else you need to know:Hourglass designed the makeup brush collection to be luxuriously soft, PETA-friendly Takelon brushes for a truly luxurious makeup experience.

Sephora Brand Professionnel All Over Shadow Brush – Large #21
What it is:This brush applies shadow to the entire lid, evenly. What it does:The wide shape and condensed, evenly distributed bristles make sure that your whole lid is uniformly covered in just a couple strokes. The thicker handle gives you more control as well. It’s a must-have for applying any base color effortlessly.

There you have it. A smudged eye that’s clean and looks good. Not heavy, dark, or too thick.

Keep this new smudged eye looking modern by keeping it paired with matte bronzer like Amazing Cosmetics Sun Shine Sun Bronzer Sun Bronzer applied as contour, and a soft shiny gold lip, like Benefit Cosmetics 24K Sexy Gold Lip Gloss Sexy Gold or Benefit Cosmetics 24K Sexy Gold Lipstick Sexy Gold Lipstick. Think of this look as the new bronzed golden girl look. For day. For spring and for summer…..
