“Brow should be sisters, not twins.”
Have you heard that quote? I hear it quite a bit, from clients that say their brows are completely different and they feel obligated to keeping them that way. Well, I hate to say it, but to me that just doesn’t make sense. Why? When something on your face is not aligned right, your eye actually goes to the one that seems ‘off’. For example, lips that are thinner on the top lip and thick on the bottom lip (or vice vesa), your eye automatically goes to one, and not the other. So if your eyebrows are two different shapes, or one’s higher than the other, or whatever the case may be, should they stay that way? I say no because ideally, you want them to be as aligned and as the same shape as possible to create the most perfect frame for both eyes.
Can they be fixed? Absolutely. I do it all the time. And the fix is usually so subtle, it only takes 2/3 hairs to make the correction.
The most common eyebrow difference I see is when one eyebrow is higher than the other. Most faces are slightly ‘un’ aligned to begin with. Just divide your face in half vertically right down the middle and the right side will be slightly different than the left. That’s actually very normal. But some faces are ever more so. So much so that you actually see in the eyebrows, as one being higher than the other. How to fix? By taking off about 2/3 hairs at the very top of the arch to bring the eyebrow down and bringing the bottom eyebrow up by adjusting it as well. I highly recommend to have a specialist do it for you, taking too much off in the wrong place can completely alter your brows, (and not in a good way!).. but just that little bit can do enough to get eyebrows looking back on track again, and no one will notice that one of your brows was slightly higher than the other.
That’s just one of the ways you can adjust and alter brows to get them perfect.
See? And you thought perfect eyebrows was just in getting the arch right….

Elke brings brow services to NYC!
If you’re in NYC, you’re so in luck! Why? Starting March 24th, I will be doing brows at the super chic salon, Janet Rufin’s Parlor in Manhattan.

Janet Rufin’s Parlour
25 W. 19th Street NY

Janet’s salon is a premiere, top rated hair salon as seen in Allure and New York Magazine and I’m thrilled to be able to offer all my brow services to Manhattan, like The Model Brow Service:
Elke’s Model Brow service offers a highly customized, no stencil approach to getting the perfect brow shape for your face and bone structure. A complete analysis starts the 30 minute procedure, where you can get your brows either waxed, or tweezed, as per client request. The service is then completed with brow makeup and tips and tricks to get your brows looking model perfect. Also, the normal 30 day waiting period is not needed to get your brows on the right track. Two weeks is all that’s needed to start getting your brows back on track and corrected, since Elke’s speciality is reshaping and fixing botched up eyebrow jobs; usually in one visit.

SPRING MAKEUP TREND: The Strong Eyebrow.
Spring Makeup Trend
The Strong Eyebrow.
Yep, the strong eyebrow is here to stay. Even for the upcoming fall collections, the eyebrow was getting thicker and darker. But that’s the runway. Here in the real world, we’ll keep it more wearable looking, ok?
Now if you’re new to the strong eyebrow look, it can be a bit daunting, but it just might grow on you.
The How To’s
First of all, look at the eyebrows you’ve got. Going from a light blonde eyebrow to a dark brown is not the trend. Going 1/2 shades darker than YOUR eyebrow shade is. The trick is to use a shadow, not a pencil. Take a eyebrow shadow or a regular eye shadow color that looks exactly your like your eyebrow hair color.
TIP: The shadow will always look darker on.

Dark Brunette (for darker skin, and black brows.
Blonde: For blonde brows.
Ash Brown: For medium to dark brown brows.
Auburn: For red brows.
Draw your shadow on with a soft, super thin angle brush. Draw your shadow line at the bottom line or edge of your eyebrow and then blend up into the brow. Then with a clean eyebrow brush, brush through so the shadow blends into your skin, looking more natural. The more you brush, the softer the brow will look.
The key to making this trend work is keeping the rest of the face clear of color and making the brows the focal point of the whole look. Keep the rest of your makeup in nude tones to make a strong statement.

Eyebrow No-No #5
In doing eyebrows, I see these 5 common eyebrow no-no;s almost every day.
What are they? Just read on to see what they are and my fixes for
them;. if you’re not sure or comfortable in fixing your own eyebrows, I
highly recommend getting an expert to shape them for you first.
5. Cut or trimmed eyebrows.
Well, this I base on a per client basis. Some clients need their
eyebrows trimmed (if not, they’d look like Grampa) while others just
don’t and they do it anyway. What happens? The super cut eyebrow that
looks good for one day and then as it grows in, looks horrible. What
happens next? They cut them again only to repeat the vicious cycle.
What’s wrong? The eyebrows are cut way too short and trimmed in the
wrong way.
Fix: What do do? If your eyebrows are in a super cut cycle, let them grow in a few days (I know, hard, but worth it) and then recut them the right way. What’s the right way? Use small manicure scissors, NOT regular scissors. Then trim in the direction of the inner eyebrow to the outside. Make sure you trim a good 1/4-1/2″; above the eyebrow, not right on top of the eyebrow. Why? When you brush your eyebrows, you need the length to fill in the eyebrow and create the shape. If they’re too short, you end up with choppy, harsh eyebrows that only look for 1-2 days.
