NEED TO KNOW:

BEFORE

  • Waxing will not change the color of hair within the follicle, and hair actually grows in finer than it was before.
  • Please do not tan either in the sun or in a tanning booth 48 hours prior to waxing.
  • Lightly exfoliate your skin several days before waxing.
  • Accutane, Coumadin or other blood thinners, alpha-hydroxy acids, Retin-A, glycolic acids, hydroquinone, topical cortisone, and some antidepressants can aggravate waxing.
  • It is not recommended that you wax after receiving micro or manual dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, a peel, or surgical removal of any growth in the area to be waxed.
  • Schedule your waxing service the first two weeks after your cycle. Your sensitivity level is a lot less during this time.
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol as these can stimulate, making you more sensitive and increases the redness after waxing.
  • Pregnancy can also increase sensitivity.

DAY OF:

  • On the day of your waxing services, you will want to make sure you thoroughly cleanse the area being waxed and that the skin is moist but not greasy from oils or lotions.

AFTER:

  • After waxing avoid extended sun exposure for 48 hours.
  • Avoid hot showers or baths, immediately following the service.
  • Scented lotions, perfumes, or colognes should be avoided for 48 hours.
  • If you have recently applied a sunless tanning product, waxing can pull skin and cause the tanning solution to fade more quickly.

SIX TIPS BEFORE YOU WAX

Here’s how to get the best experience from your waxing service:

1. Take two to four ibuprofen, 30 to 60 minutes before your appointment. It will help dull pain receptors and make it a more pleasant experience.

2. Allow seven to 10 days of hair growth before your waxing service.

3. Limit your caffeine intake on the day of the waxing service, since it stimulates the nervous system and increases sensitivity.

4. Schedule your appointment within the first two weeks of your menstrual cycle, after the last period, if possible. At this time, you are retaining the least amount of fluid, and it’s a lot more comfortable.

5. Do not use self-tanners, exfoliants or moisturizers the day of the service—it can cause infections or irritations since the sensitive hair follicles are open after the wax. Also avoid the tanning bed –in general–but especially post-wax.

6. Never wax a new area of your body for the first time before a big event. You just don’t know what kind of reaction there might be. Come in two to three days before the big event to make sure there’s no reaction.
