BeautyXpose asks me “How Do I Get Brilliant Brows?”
What a great way to wake up and find this great article on how to get amazing brows… see more of my interview with Beautyexpose.com as myself as well as other brow pros answer the question:
Dear BX, I don’t have a clue about what to do for eyebrows. Do I wax or tweeze? Do I try it myself or leave it to a professional? I never know what shape I’m supposed to go for. I hear thicker brows are back, but does that mean the arched look is out? -Raquel W. Raquel, Raquel — we’ve all been there, believe me. There are so many options for eyebrows and so many brow “trends” that it’s no wonder you’re confused. Try these tried-and-true eyebrow taming tips to help you sort out what’s best for your own eye-framers.
Get Plucky. Which hair removal technique is best — waxing, tweezing, threading or electrolysis ? Well, a lot of it has to do with your personal choice (and how permanent you want your look to be, in the case of electrolysis). That said, Celebrity Makeup Artist and Eyebrow Specialist Elke Von Freudenberg believes tweezing is your best bet for precision plucking………………..

Imagine my delight when I was notified by fashiontribes.com, that our brow line is an Indie beauty must for brows. I’m so honored! Thank you Fashiontribes!
I’m in First Magazine!

Did you see? In the Dec 7, 2009 Issue | What are your Eyebrows Saying? | Page 14
Celebrity brow specialist Elke Von Freudenberg shares shaping strategies that ensure you always send the right message.
“I’m Confused” _ Brows that sit too close together can transmit a puzzled vibe. Von Freudenberg suggests plucking one verticle row from the inside corner of each brow (or until brows line up with tear ducts).
“I’m Arrogant” _ Arches that are different heights can convey a condescending attitude. The fix: To help even them out, Von Freudenberg advises plucking a hair or two off the peak of the higher brow.
“I’m Angry” _ Over-plucking the outer corners can make brows see to slant inward, mimicking a livid look.

Elke Von Freudenberg doesn’t pluck and tell. I know this because yesterday I met with this eyebrow specialist who has shaped, waxed and tweezed some pretty high profile Hollywood types over the years. Try as I might to get her to dish up some names, she wouldn’t play. Elke is a pretty smart cookie for reasons other than not giving up her stars.
Editors get the greatest invitations during New York Fashion Week and unfortunately most of us have very limited time to indulge and miss out on some wonderful opportunities.
Elke sent out a mass invitation to the press to come BEFORE the shows begin to get their eyebrows “prepped” for the crazy, busy week of fashion. She is expecting up to 80! This is quite generous considering Elke charges $65 for first time clients and $55 for returning clients……………..

A defined eyebrow arch can take years off your look – aestheticians call it a mini eye lift.
“Eyebrows do much more than frame the eyes,” says makeup artist and eyebrow specialist Elke Von Freudenberg. “They also tell others around you a story – your story. Are you confident? Tired? Sad? Powerful? Once women have had their eyebrows done terribly wrong, they realize the importance of eyebrows and what they tell others about you.
“The goal of perfect eyebrows is to have people notice your eyes and you, not your eyebrows.”
Von Freudenberg recommends taking an extra row off the bottom of the inner portion of the brow to create more space and widen and open the eyes. She also adds a soft highlight shadow to wake up the eye (check out the how-to online) and distract from the hairs that grow in between grooming appointments.
Von Freudenberg’s “The Brow Collection” is a line of products that allows anyone to create their own look. She also offers personal tips on how to use each piece. For example, her new Lash Brow Groomer includes a brush side and a comb side. Elke’s tip: Use the brush side to brush brows up as you tweeze and shape them. (As you brush upward, you can get a better idea of the line and shape of your brows.) Use the comb side to comb and hold brows in place to trim.
Her line also includes brow pencils, shadows and additional brushes.
Von Freudenberg has been called the fashion industry’s “Queen of Brows” and her Web site, http://thebrowcollection.com, offers many free tips and step-by-step guides to perfecting your eyebrows.

Check out the super nice interview that I got to do with Raging Rouge’s very own Jen! Thank you!
Elke Von Freudenberg And The Model Brow
If the beauty blogging world had a queen, it would be Elke Von Freudenberg. When I first launched Raging Rouge, I was naive. I had no idea there were hundreds of other like-minded bloggers out there, testing gloss and sharing their opinions with the world. But Elke knew… she launched The Beauty Blog Network and invited the best beauty bloggers to become one, big, makeup-addicted family.
Elke is a busy woman! She’s a professional makeup artist, and works on both coasts, she writes her own beauty blog, and she recently launched Elke’s Brow Collection, her own line of eyebrow makeup and tools.
I recently had the pleasure of catching up with Elke, and asking her some questions about brow grooming and makeup. Here’s what Elke had to say!
Q: How can women best sculpt their brows to flatter their face shape?
A: If you stay within the 4 guidelines of shaping your brows, you should be fine.
1. starting point should be between the tear duct and the bridge of the nose.
2. ending point should be at the end of the nose, a straight line to the end of the brow.
3. arch should be directly above the outer edge of the iris of the eye.
4. the line from beginning to arch should be straight, the line from arch to end should be slightly curved.
Q: Where should the arch of the eyebrow be placed?
A: The arch of the eyebrow should line up directly at the outside edge of the iris of the eye. Any further out than that and your eyes can actually look too close together, or even cross eyed, especially in photos.
Q: If one over-plucks, what should be done for damage control?
A: Stop tweezing any hairs that are coming in anywhere from 1-2 rows below the brow. Also, don’t tweeze the light, baby hairs coming in. They may actually come in thicker and darker as they grow. As they grow in, use brow pencil and brow shadow to fill in between the stray hairs as they come in. Focus on growing your brows in 1-2 rows at a time. That way, they will always look good, rather than letting them go for a few months and then they can look wild and overgrown.
Q: Should eye pencil be darker or lighter than your natural brow shade?
A: Pencil should always be 1 shade lighter then your brow color (not hair color) and brow shadow should be 1-2 shades lighter than your brow color. Because you are applying color into another color (your brows) it will always look too dark if you try to match. Go lighter and the color will blend in every time. Also, avoid brow colors that are too muddy, orange or have a gray or green undertone to them. The color will look too fake.
Q: When and why should wax and powder be used?
A: I use clear brow wax to keep thicker, coarse brows in place. You can apply them either before or after your brow shadow for a different look. Apply before, and you’ll find your brow shadows go on sharper, stronger. Apply after and it’ll keep keep brows and color in place, but it won’t affect the brow shadow.
Q: How often should brow makeup be replaced?
A: Just like any other eye shadow product. I would replace every 8-12 months. Sharpen eyebrow pencils after every use to keep sanitary.
Q: What are must-have products from your line, Elke’s Brow Collection?
A: Our brow groomer wax (Brow Tamer) is a top seller because it’s clear and keeps brows in place. Also our Brow Ware Clear Mascara goes on like water, to avoid flaking or giving a grayish cast that some clear brow gels can do. The Brow Ware also makes brows glossy which is really pretty. I’m also really proud of our Day Brow Shadows. All the brow shadows are made without any undertones in them you avoid the brow colors looking off when you’ve applied them. Our Blonde shade is the truest blonde you’ll fine (no green or gray undertones) and our Ash Brown matches so many brunette brows because it’s not a muddy brown. Also the Dark Brunette Day Brow is for darker skins tones, such as medium to black skin, so their brow colors look true against their darker skin without looking ashy.
Q: Any great tips and tricks you’d like to share?
A: Try applying your brow products different ways to get different looks. My new fav trick is to apply Eyebrow Pencil after your Brow Day Shadow to fill in and get a more even look to the brows. It’s easier to apply that way and you get a more natural look. I also like using our Brow Hi-Lights in between brow appointments because soft shimmer bounces light off the eyebrows growing in so you don’t notice them as much.

EASY SOLUTION
If you actually did over pluck, you can fill your eyebrows in by pressing a brow shadow into your brow. Elke Von Freudenberg, author and eyebrow specialist, has a tip for you; use a brow shadow color a few shades lighter than your hair color. It will blend in easier and you’ll avoid the too dark and heavy brow look.
Here is a way to tame unruly brows; Elke Von Freudenberg suggested to “use a brow wax or pomade to keep thicker, heavier brows in control while the brow clear mascara is for thinner and lighter brows.”: For more brow tips, visit themodelbrow.com.
IN THE LIMELIGHT
Plucking and waxing is not enough to have perfect brows. Elke Von Freudenberg tells her clients to use a highlight shadow to emphasize their brow shape, and also use in between brow shapings to hide ingrown hairs.
The Model Brow’s Hi-Lights make your brows look sharper, more defined, and bring an eyebrow lift effect as well. These Hi-Light shadows, created by Eyebrow Specialist and Celebrity Makeup Artist Elke Von Freudenberg also work great to mask growing in brows until that next appointment by creating a shimmer glow to distract from unruly hairs.
Brow Tamer Review from Mischo Beauty

“My eyebrows are a serious matter and you’ll hardly ever catch me leaving home without them! I’m a licensed esthetician and I’ve spent many hours learning to tweeze and wax eyebrows by doing my own. Well I wish this product was around when I started doing my own brows, but I’m happy to have discovered it now. The Brow Tamer, which is part of The Brow Collection by celebrity makeup artist Elke Von Freudenberg, is a very light pomade used to condition, shape and keep brows in place. It’s perfect for those of you who have brows with minds of their own!”
