Saturday - Day One - 7:00 a.m.
I've been wanting to do an educational makeup video for a long time, so I'm having a hard time believing that the first day of shooting is finally here. After all the planning, consulting, and confirming, I realize that my dream is about to become a reality. I've been a photographic and salon makeup artist for over 10 years, and have had the pleasure of working on some of the country's top models and clients. I've also been a free-lance makeup educator for over 8 years, traveling the country educating other makeup artists. As a result, I noticed that there seems minimal education for those of us in our field. That led me here today, on a very warm, January morning in Los Angeles, California, shooting the first of what I hope to be many videos to educate anyone interested in learning more about their craft.
Sunday - Day One
The 20's Look Video I
A lot of planning and preparation went into this. I couldn't have done it without Reyna, my personal assistant. She made endless phone calls, planned and coordinated the schedules of about 20 people, and found the perfect model who relates to the style of beauty I want to capture on film. She also secured the perfect photographer to create the picture, the wardrobe stylist to pull together the right clothes, and the hair dresser who knows how to style hair in less than half an hour. And of course, there were countless and endless meetings with the video producer to be arranged, to make sure that the image and the message of what I'm trying to say on camera actually gets across.
We started at about 8:00 a.m., with all the crew arriving for a photo shoot with our first model. We begin with a meeting with everyone to make sure we're all on the same wavelength. We wanted to create a very glamourous 20's look. We also wanted to emphasize the model's perfect Audrey Hepburn-like bone structure. Her elegance and stature called for an equally elegant outfit: a ball gown. And of course classic false eyelashes and perfect eyeliner. The striking lipstick of the moment. The ideal earrings. The right simplistic yet retro hair style.
